Executive Summary
A further four regions yesterday joined Spain's ehealth development programme "Sanidad en linea". La Rioja, Aragon, Navarra and the Balearics will invest a total of E18m ($24m) in 2006 and 2007 in infrastructure that comprehensively links patient records, personal health cards, electronic prescribing, GP appointments and picture archiving and transmission (PACS). The programme is funded on a parity basis between the central government and the regional health authorities, which now total 13. The central government, through the public company Red.es set up for this purpose, has so far committed E141m.
