Executive Summary
UK Department of Health plans to consult on the reform of the Payment by Results (PbR) tariff system have been postponed until early 2007. In a letter to strategic health authority (SHA) chiefs, sent to introduce the launch of the "2007-08 PbR road-testing exercise" (full report tomorrow), NHS chief executive David Nicholson speaks of making PbR "more robust and more responsive to changing patterns of healthcare". The consultation document will now be issued in early 2007 and not in autumn 2006, as previously planned.
