Executive Summary
An announcement concerning a draft bill to set up the UK's Regulatory Authority for Tissues and Embryology (RATE) is expected in November. The government intends that the new organisation will be responsible for regulating human tissue, gametes and embryos and will bring together the statutory functions that are currently the responsibility of the Human Tissue Authority and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA; see Clinica No 1227, p 15).
