Chile's centralised medical supplies procurement system has provided further evidence of cost-efficiencies, in the form of a 28% reduction in hospital deficits. The savings being attributed to the competition created by the Cenabast (Central de Abastecimiento) supplies centre in the first half of this year are said to be Peso1.32bn (US$2.46m); the full-year savings are expected to total Peso7.5bn.
