Executive Summary
Accident and emergency attendances in England during April to June of this year (first quarter 2006-07) totalled 4.89 million, according to data published today. Across the 264 trusts involved (including walk-in centres), 4.64m of these were first attendances, while just over 250,000 were follow-ups. While overall A&E activity increased marginally (0.66%) on the 4.86m of the same period in 2005-06, follow-ups fell quite significantly (6.84%), from almost 269,000. Total A&E activity in 2005-06 was 18.76m attendances.
