Brazil strengthens research and development in cardiac cell therapy

Executive Summary

Brazil's National Cardiology Institute at Laranjeiras (INCL), in Rio de Janeiro city, has inaugurated a refurbished blood collection and haematology centre, which will serve to support what it is describing as the world's largest cardiopathy stem cell therapy study. The INCL, which conducted around 1,230 such procedures in 2005, receives 280-350 blood donations per month to support its surgery programme.
