Wales gains new healthcare policy freedoms:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Wales has gained greater freedoms to legislate on healthcare, after the UK's upper house of parliament (House of Lords) passed the Government of Wales Bill. The Welsh Assembly will now not be required to go through Westminster for final approval of laws in certain areas of public policy. The Welsh medical and political communities recently launched a scathing attack of English reforms, blaming flawed US models of healthcare as destabilising and weakening the National Health Service by relying excessively on the services of private providers (see Clinica No 1212, p 4).
