The UAE is planning to build 24 new hospitals - 18 of which have been approved - during the period 2007-10, according to a report released this month. "Healthcare provision in Dubai", which outlines current and future healthcare provisions, was developed collaboratively by Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS), Dubai Municipality and the Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ). Other data provided by the report include: private/government hospital ratios (of the 6,032 hospitals serving Dubai's population of around 1 million people, the majority are private - 67%); and the number of major pieces of diagnostic equipment in the city (including CT, 16; and MRI, 9).
