Executive Summary
Mass screening, research and awareness" at the community level is needed for the high incidence of cervical cancer in Nepal. So said Sheela Verma, chief consultant gynaecologist at Stupa Community Hospital (SCH) in Boudha, a suburb of Kathmandu and a famous pilgrimage/tourist site. A recent screening programme undertaken by the Nepal Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (NNCTR) screened 19,000 women. 955 women were found to have gynaecological malignancies, and 825 had the disease. Further screening is currently underway at the SCH.
