Spire Biomedical has received US FDA 510(k) clearance to sell a long-term haemodialysis catheter, called Decathlon, which is treated with a coating designed to address device-related complications typically associated with dialysis treatment. The coating is firmly bonded to both internal and external catheter surfaces and has been shown to reduce thrombus and fibrin sheath formation in both in vitro and animal studies, said the Bedford, Massachusetts firm.
