Medicare is reporting success in convincing US kidney patients to adopt a safer, higher-quality vascular access to haemodialysis. In the fourth quarter of 2005, some 41% of US kidney patients had a fistula - a connection surgically created by joining a vein and an artery in the forearm - compared to 33% of kidney patients in 2003.
