Sir Ian Carruthers has been appointed acting chief executive of the UK's National Health Service, in place of Sir Nigel Crisp, who is to retire at the end of the month, it was announced today. Sir Ian was recently appointed acting director of commissioning. Hugh Taylor will replace Sir Nigel in his other leading role, stepping in as acting permanent secretary of the Department of Health. Mr Taylor is DoH group director of strategy and business development.
