Australia's national electronic health records (EHR) will receive a boost of Aus$130m (US$95.8m), to be provided jointly from the government (Aus$65m) and the states and territories (Aus$65m) beginning this month up to June 30 2009. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has agreed to accelerate work on the national EHR system by developing and implementing systems to provide individual and health provider identification; agreed clinical terminologies; and promoting compliance with nationally-agreed standards across governmentally procured or funded EHR systems.
