HAI: "UK needs admission, pre-surgery and follow-up testing":

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

New UK legislation aimed at tightening the control of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) has been criticised by the government's opposition as not going far enough. Shadow health minister Andrew Lansley yesterday highlighted the lack of requirements on hospitals to conduct routine surveillance of patients upon admission, pre-surgery monitoring and follow-up testing. His comments came in response to statistics released yesterday on the incidence of drug-resistant bloodstream infections in English hospitals. The legislation is currently going through parliament.
