Spain crowns biomedical R&D drive with stem cell vision:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

"Embryonic stem cell research is ... the most promising route to finding therapeutic solutions for diseases that do not now have a cure." So said Spanish health minister and professor of molecular biology and regenerative medicine Bernat Soria last week. He was speaking at the conference "Biomedical research in Spain: a policy full of prospects", hosted by the national academy of medicine (RANM) to mark the end of its 2007 academic session. The event also served to celebrate Professor Soria's role in overseeing the significant development of biomedical R&D this year. His ministerial appointment followed the approval in June of the biomedical research law, paving the way for stem cell research.
