Executive Summary
Ventracor has CE-marked the new version of its VentrAssist left ventricular assist device (LVAD), allowing the product's sale in Europe. The new device, called LVA4, uses the VentrAssist blood pump with a thinner percutaneous lead, which, it is hoped, will lower the risk of infection. It also has a replaceable external extension wire to the controller, allowing replacements of the external part of the wire if it becomes damaged, or worn after long-term use. The LVA4 has a more flexible outflow cannula for greater surgical flexibility, the Melbourne, Australia firm said.
