German-Swiss X-border "pilot success":

Executive Summary
The joint project between Switzerland and Germany that provides healthcare for the local respective populations either side of the border has been described as a"total success" by the German health ministry. Under the pilot project, which began on January 1 2007, 27 health insurers (22 from Switzerland) and 22 hospitals (14 from Germany) have been providing care and reimbursement for border region patients. The project to provide a "decisively" better quality of healthcare for this population was long overdue, said German state secretary for health Marion Caspers-Merk. The model can presumably be replicated in other border regions.
