African projects get Scottish medical technology boost:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Pathology and cataract surgery in Malawi and Ethiopia, respectively, feature among 13 African healthcare development projects that are to share £50,000 ($102,000) to cover the purchase of equipment and other costs. This is the last annual allocation of a three-year programme by the Scottish government, which has established a total of 37 projects across sub-Saharan Africa. The purchase of equipment is subject only to the criterion that it will help the medical volunteers "deliver their expertise", Clinica understands. In Malawi, NHS Scotland aims mainly to improve cancer diagnostics, while also providing technical support to the national diagnostic service; the provision of cataract surgery in rural Ethiopia builds on existing projects.
