Executive Summary
Minimally-disruptive spinal surgery specialist NuVasive has granted spinal fixation product manufacturer Theken Spine non-exclusive access to its "insert and rotate" method technology. In return for the patented method, NuVasive will receive royalty payments of an undisclosed amount from Theken. The "insert and rotate" technique separates and stabilises adjacent vertebrae by rotating a device between the two vertebrae. It is complementary to Theken's range of products for cervical, deformity and degenerative spinal products. According to Akron, Ohio-based Theken, approximately 350 surgeons performed spinal fusion procedures using the company's implants and/or biologics in 2006.
