Executive Summary
The World Medical Association is calling for a ban on the commercialisation of procedures involved in tissue transplantation. In addition to rejecting the use of financial incentives to encourage tissue donation, the general assembly agreed "all other steps, such as the procurement, testing, processing, conservation, storage and allocation of tissue transplants, should likewise not be commercialised". It went on to underline the need to ensure that the international exchange of such tissues should be "properly regulated according to agreed upon standards". The WMA's general assembly (Copenhagen, Denmark, October 3-6) has also issued ethical guidance specific to the installation and use of telemedicine systems.
