This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

A new health minister has been appointed in Slovenia amidst controversy. Zofija Kukovic has received the backing of the Prime Minister despite protests from the parliamentary opposition, who is reported to have considered that the new incumbent lacked the necessary expertise. Ms Kukovic, who was most recently chair of an environmental and power company, says she wants to improve the healthcare investment programme. It is unlikely to be an easy ride for her: her predecessor Andrej Brucan, said that he had experienced attacks and allegations that discredited his work.
