Slovenia to introduce colorectal cancer screening next year:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Slovenian government is to launch a national colorectal cancer screening programme in 2008, aimed at those aged between 50 and 70. Approximately 1,200 Slovenians are diagnosed with the disease each year. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in Slovenia, and the second-most common cancer resulting in death. Outgoing health minister Andrej Brucan was among those who signed the Brussels Declaration, which called on the European Commission to provide a sound basis for the fight against colorectal cancer. See also this issue page 2 (Canada) and 5 (EU) for more international views on colorectal cancer screening shortfalls.
