Executive Summary
Irish catheter and stent specialist ClearStream Technologies has forged a distribution deal with Shanghai Micro Medical Devices (SMMD), in a move to penetrate the Chinese peripheral vascular market. SMMD is scheduled to begin distribution of ClearStream's peripheral angioplasty devices in early 2008, once product registration has been completed. Among the products to be sold by SMMD is ClearStream's ReeKross catheter for treating critical limb ischaemia. It is estimated that 10% of China's 41 million medically-insured retirees suffer from the condition, which can often result in amputation of the lower limbs due to lack of circulation in that area.
