Executive Summary
The Ugandan government is mobilising diagnostic testing and laboratory resources to stem an outbreak of Marburg haemorrhagic fever (MHF). The ministry of health (MoH) is acting to monitor and halt a possible spread of the infection beyond a single group of several cases, including one fatality, reported over the last month, according to a statement issued today by the World Health Organisation. The WHO is supporting the MoH with supplies and logistics efforts. The laboratory investigations are being carried out by the Uganda Virology Research Institute and the Kenya Medical Research Institute, backed by the Atlanta, US laboratory of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where the definitive confirmation of MHF was made.
