Inhaled insulin available in Spain:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Most of Spain's three million diabetics can now opt to have the medical examination that should give them access to inhaled - rather than injected - insulin. From yesterday, Pfizer's Exubera became available in Spanish pharmacies, joining those in Germany, Ireland and the UK, Pfizer Espana told Clinica. The dry-powder delivery system is being provided under a full, national reimbursement regime, but only by prescription, following a medical examination: the technology will be barred to patients who have certain respiratory conditions and to children (the age threshold will be at the discretion of the physician, Clinica understands). Exubera received EU-wide market approval in January 2006.
