Executive Summary
Datascope (Montvale, New Jersey) has agreed to acquire Swedish gas analyser specialist Artema Medical (Stockholm) in a move that augments the former's line of patient monitoring products. Datascope has recently introduced several new products to the surgical procedure market including the Spectrum OR, the Anestar Plus and the Gas Module SE with spirometry, and the addition of Artema's products, which monitor the concentration of anaesthetic agents used in surgery, will complement this range, says Datascope. Artema is the developer of what it claims is the world's most compact and power efficient side-stream gas analyser, the Aion which is sold on an OEM basis. The agreement will see the company continue to operate out of the Swedish capital as a separate business of Datascope. Established in 1990, Artema recorded revenues of $10m in 2006, a 35% increase on the previous year.
