Medtronic is to pay Johnson & Johnson $226.3m in damages for allegedly infringing the patents related to pedicle screws developed by the latter's DePuy subsidiary. The blow was dealt to Medtronic last week, after its appeal against an unfavourable ruling by a federal jury in Boston was refused to be heard by the US Supreme Court.
