Executive Summary
Australia's Northern Territory has been formally promised a radiation oncology facility. It will be based on land at the Royal Darwin Hospital, with equipment and infrastructure financed 70% by the Commonwealth Government. The Darwin Radiation Oncology Unit, which will be Australia's most remote oncology facility, will enable the approximately 450 Northern Territory residents who are diagnosed with cancer each year to receive treatment without having to travel long distances interstate. The project is the first to be funded under the 2006-07 budget initiative, "Better Access to Radiation Oncology".
