UK PCTs taking up DH's World Class Commissioning - but sanctions to be set for miscreants

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The UK Department of Health's (DH) plan to introduce "World Class Commissioning" across all 152 primary care trusts (PCTs) in England is well on course. Speaking at BIVDA's spring meeting in London last week, DH director of commissioning Gary Bellfield said 140 trusts are already actively engaged in the WCC programme. Each of these trusts - which have been charged with taking control of local healthcare (Strategic Health Authorities monitor performance and standards) since April 2002 - are being asked to identify 10-15 local healthcare priorities. These priorities differ across the country.
