Executive Summary
A satellite radiotherapy centre is to be set up at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry (Northern Ireland) to provide cross-border services covering Northern Ireland and the North West region of Ireland. An agreement to establish such a centre was signed with Belfast City Hospital at the end of 2006, as part of the Irish Health Service Executive's wider radiation oncology modernisation plans. Details of the project, which was first mooted in July 2005, when Ireland announced a E400m ($635m) investment in the new network (see Clinica No 1167, p 3), have yet to be discussed.
