This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Lesotho has become the fourth country to gain access to investments in HIV diagnostics and care under the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria's $100m RED programme. Joining the governments of Rwanda, Swaziland and Ghana, Lesotho's ministry of finance will be responsible for investing in screening to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission and in general HIV testing, among other activities. The RED programme was established in 2006 to engage the private sector in raising public awareness and funding specifically for HIV/AIDS in Africa (see Clinica No 1206, p 10). $57m of the $100m pledged so far to the RED programme have been disbursed.
