Executive Summary

The Canadian ministry of health has announced it will be investing Can$1m (US$1m) in community-based investments to improve healthcare in Newfoundland and Labrador. Of this amount, the Lung Association of Newfoundland and Labrador will receive Can$112,000 to assist blue collar and service industry workplaces in developing smoking cessation strategies. The Seniors Resource Centre of Newfoundland and Labrador will receive Can$205,000 to help reduce smoking rates among seniors. Also, among other funding allocations, the Government of Nunatsiavut's community diabetes prevention worker training scheme will receive Can$136,000.
