Executive Summary
Intelesens has CE marked its Vitalsens multi-parameter wireless patient monitoring device for sale in Europe. The device is made up of a disposable electrode patch and a reusable clip-on transmitter, which is worn on the patient’s chest. It transmits information on parameters including heart rate, ECG, temperature and activity levels via Bluetooth to software that can be installed on the patient’s home PC. Physicians can access the data either locally or remotely. The Belfast-based company, a spin out of the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, described the technology as “low-cost”, and hopes it will be used to manage chronically ill patients at home, as well as monitoring hospital in- and out-patients.
