Medtronic has appointed Prof Martin Rothman vice-president of medical affairs for its Santa Rosa, California-based coronary and peripheral vascular division, effective January 4 2010. Prof Rothman has worked as an interventional cardiologist in the UK for 37 years, contributing to clinical research (he was an investigator in clinical trials of Medtronic's Endeavor drug-eluting stents), training and education and new product development. His first start-up company, set up in 1985, developed intravascular ultrasound technology that allows clinicians to see inside patients’ arteries – the company was sold in May 2000.
