GE boosts Healthymagination drive with Living Independently buy

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

As part of its Healthymagination initiative of improving the quality of medical care around the world, GE Healthcare has purchased wireless monitoring specialist Living Independently. For an undisclosed fee, GE will gain the QuietCare passive monitoring system, which is used to wirelessly track the daily patterns of elderly patients’ activities. QuietCare is designed to alert caregivers to behavioural changes that may signal potential health issues or emergency situations, allowing earlier intervention. In September 2008, New York-based Living Independently signed up GE as the global distributor and co-marketer of the QuietCare system (www.clinica.co.uk, October 9 2008). This deal saw GE (Chalfont St Giles, UK) gain a minority ownership stake in Living Independently. GE previously accredited the QuietCare system as a “Healthymagination product” under its scheme to increase access, reduce cost and increase the quality of healthcare delivery.
