Executive Summary
Publication of the annual "benefits statement" related to the UK NHS' National Programme for IT (NPfIT) has been delayed because of plans to merge the programme's annual report and cost and benefits statements into one single document. So said health minister Mike O'Brien in the House of Commons, on October 28. He explained that the Department of Health (DH) has "agreed to consider producing an annual report of the NPfIT's progress against published timetables and expenditure forecasts", in line with recommendations made by the Public Accounts Committee in January 2009. The DH is considering publishing such a document – with a "restructured statement of the costs and benefits of the programme" – from 2009-10, he said.
