John Brown, chairman of Stryker, is to retire at the end of 2009 after a 32-year career with the orthopaedics group. Current president and CEO, Stephen MacMillan will take on the additional responsibility of chairman, with effect January 1 2010. Mr Brown joined in 1977 as the president and CEO and became chairman in 1981. In recognition of his contributions to Stryker, the Kalamazoo, Michigan firm has given him the title chairman emeritus. Mr Brown will not play an active role in the company but will be available in a consultative capacity.
