Executive Summary
Brazil's and Argentina's national technical standards bodies are about to sign an agreement confirming plans to collaborate in the development of certification services. The agreement will seek to "promote the joint delivery of certification services, without interfering in the two bodies' independence, in terms of issuing or revising certifications, or criteria-related policy-making", said the ABNT. While each body – Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) and Instituto Argentino de Normalização e Certificação (IRAM) – will operate "commercially" only in their own country, the agreement envisages joint training programmes and joint participation in initiatives to "develop and improve products and services". The signing is scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil, on August 27, and will serve to confirm an initial collaboration agreement signed in May.
