RF excision biopsy for breast lesions gets NICE thumbs down

Executive Summary
The UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has decided against the routine use of image-guided radiofrequency (RF) excision biopsy of breast lesions. The technique, arguably the most exciting of the latest round of interventional procedures (IPP) guidance, was found to lack evidence on the safety and efficacy of the technology. In addition, "there are concerns about the possibility of false-negative biopsy results", said NICE. As a result, it may only be used under special arrangements.
