Medtech industry mostly confident about 2009, suggests global survey

Medical device and in vitro diagnostics companies globally remain positive about business in 2009, despite the global economic downturn, according to a survey conducted earlier this month. US consultancy Emergo Group (Austin, Texas) reports that 74% of the company representatives interviewed said their firms were planning to expand into international markets next year. 56% said they were positive about their firm’s prospects in 2009, and 61% expected their overall sales to increase. Just 9% expected a decrease in sales from 2008, and 17% stated that they were either “somewhat negative” or “very negative” about the coming year. The survey involved executives from more than 1,000 companies in North America (67%), Europe (18%) and Asia (10%). Small firms, of less than 100 employees. made up 60% of the respondents.
