This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

China has announced that it will be releasing details of its healthcare reforms in the near future. But the areas that will be prioritised are: state-run hospitals, which are to be upgraded, and new facilities built; purchase of “big medical apparatus”; funding for “key academic research” and for doctor training; and funding for healthcare provision for the elderly. Hospitals to be given priority status in terms of government support will be those providing care related to epidemic conditions, vocational illnesses, and conditions related to maternity and affecting children; and basic public health services such as disease prevention, inoculation and health education.
