Philips launches portable ultrasound

Philips has launched its CX50 CompactXtreme, a laptop-sized portable ultrasound system, worldwide. It received US FDA 510(k) clearance last month. The Dutch electronics giant claims the device, which is designed for cardiologists, has the image quality of a traditional, premium, full-sized system, while being portable. It is useful in difficult-to-image patients or those who are too ill to be moved. The CX50 CompactXtreme features the firm's PureWave transducer and its XRES adaptive image processing.
