Executive Summary
Power Medical Interventions (PMI) has gained $2.5m in new funding from Intuitive Surgical after achieving a milestone in the ongoing development of a novel surgical stapling device. The two companies signed a licensing deal in September 2008 (see Clinica No 1323, p 23), in which they agreed to use PMI's computer-assisted, power-actuated surgical stapling know-how to jointly develop a product for use with Intuitive's da Vinci robotic surgical system. Once developed, the device will allow doctors to use the da Vinci to cut and staple tissue in a range of surgical applications.
