Executive Summary
In a bid to expand its surgical device portfolio, Ethicon Endo-Surgery has inked a deal to acquire privately-held SurgRx and its family of FDA-cleared EnSeal devices. The systems incorporate Redwood, California-based SurgRx's proprietary advanced bipolar tissue sealing technology, which combines high compression and controlled energy delivery to create strong vessel seals. Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company, said that the EnSeal will complement its current Harmonic line of ultrasonic devices used in open and laparoscopic procedures. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
