Mexico launched this week a programme of local cervical cancer screening campaigns, in a bid to increase detection rates in areas of the country with the highest incidence of the disease. The "cervical cancer prevention strategy for the 125 most underdeveloped municipalities" (all in the states of Chiapas, Durango, Guerrero Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla and Veracruz), consists of three week-long campaigns – the others take place in December and next June.
