Executive Summary
The US FDA has granted 510(k) clearance for Iridex's IQ family of laser systems. It includes the IQ 532 (green spectrum), IQ 577 (yellow), IQ 630-670 (red) and IQ 810 (infrared) systems, which are used for a wide range of applications including ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) and dermatology. For example, the 532nm laser can correct certain types of hearing loss, while 810nm lasers can treat glaucoma. Mountain View, California-based Iridex will launch the IQ 577 yellow light laser first, which it says provides a wavelength and technology that is not commercially available from any of its competitors. It can deliver light in a continuous wave or MicroPulse, tissue-sparing, mode.
