Executive Summary
Lord Ara Darzi's report, launched last year to coincide with the NHS' 60th anniversary, indeed promised better uptake of medtech innovations. But, as far back as 2001, the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) led in criticising the "patchy progress" in realising the vision of the Wanless review. We will have to wait for the Health Bill to go through parliament in 2009 to see to what extent Darzi will put Wanless back on track. The creation of a National Quality Board is a concrete step in that direction.
