WMA announces next president elect

Dana Hanson has been appointed president elect of the World Medical Association (WMA – Ferney-Voltaire, France) for 2009-10, when Dr Yoram Blachar, the incoming president (see this issue, p 17), steps down. Dr Hanson, a former president of the Canadian Medical Association, is a dermatologist and will be the first Canadian to take the presidency in nearly 40 years. The two areas he will prioritise are: access to healthcare, including the shortage of “over 4.4 million healthcare workers” globally; and increasing awareness of the effects of climate change on human health.
