Executive Summary
Olympus has launched its Enzymatic Paracetamol test, designed to measure overdose of the drug, in the UK and Ireland. CE marked for sale in Europe, the test uses serum or heparinised plasma and can produce results in under 12 minutes, the Japanese firm told Clinica. It added that because the test was the first Olympus paracetamol product specifically developed for use on company's instrumentation, it has "enhanced calibration stability" over the product previously used on Olympus's equipment, Audit Diagnostics' OAR6905. It also simplifies the process for operators and produces less waste. Other paracetamol assays include Applied Biotech's point-of-care, finger-stick blood test, which was launched in the UK in 2002.
