Executive Summary
Privately held x-ray system maker Quantum Medical Imaging is acquired by imaging device maker Carestream for undisclosed terms in a deal announced Sept. 7. Carestream, which is also privately-held, said it purchased rival Quantum in order to tap into the Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based company's market base of smaller acute care hospitals, imaging centers and physician offices. Carestream products include digital radiography and computed radiography systems, similar to Quantum's offerings, but the Rochester, N.Y. firm primarily markets its products to medium and large provider facilities. Carestream said the acquisition will allow it to provide "a broad portfolio of conventional and digital x-ray systems for healthcare providers worldwide.
